Check your Readiness Index for life after retirement on a smartphone application
- Smartphone application and leaflets regarding Readiness Index to be distributed –
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Rim Chemin) will launch an application on the 8th of February which can help people prepare for life after retirement by rating themselves on a *Readiness Index and comparing their status to the population, and also present ways they can prepare for retirement.
* The Readiness Index was jointly developed by the government and private organizations to indicate how well people have prepared for retirement.
The smartphone app was designed to help people prepare for retirement by simply checking their Readiness Index and comparing their status to others.
Based on data collected from surveys on the whole population, people can easily check their level of preparation for retirement, and their status by category, age, and sex.
* If a total readiness score is higher than 65.1 points, that group is considered as a highly prepared group, between 65 and 46.6 is normal, and lower than 46.5 is considered low. Different scoring standards apply to each category.
Also, the application will analyze categories of readiness by personal relations, health, finance, and leisure, and offer simple ways to prepare for retirement.
The application will be available free of charge for both android phones and iPhones, and people can search for it with the keywords “Readiness Index” on each application market.
* The iPhone application will be distributed by the end of February after Apple Inc.’s review for registration (1 to 2 weeks required).
Leaflets on the Readiness Index will be distributed at ticket booths near climbing routes on major mountains, cultural centers of department stores, banks and insurance companies, and on KTX high-speed trains.
An official of the ministry said, “The Readiness Index-testing app was developed to help people from youths to senior citizens easily check their readiness for retirement, and prepare for life after retirement on their own.”
In order to supplement any deficiencies of the application, the ministry plans to provide helpful instructions on life after retirement to each age group. Door-to-door services from a moving bus regarding retirement plans will also be offered this year for salary men and residents in rural areas who have difficulty visiting service centers.
In addition, the ministry has planned a tentative legislation called “The Law to Support Retirement Plans” to educate service personnel to distribute the Readiness Index, and provide continuing education centers of universities and social welfare organizations with retirement plan service.
* Regarding the existing retirement plan service, 500,000 people per year at 141 branches of the Happy Retirement Plan Center under the National Pension Corporation received consultations and 340,000 people received education.
