¨  As of June 9, eight additional patients tested positive for MERS-CoV, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 95. In the meantime, #47(female, 68), who had a history of valvular disease, has been confirmed dead.

¨  Case #18(female, 77) is to be released today. This patient was diagnosed with MERS on May 31 after being admitted to a hospital due to fever. The decision to discharge the patient came after she tested negative for MERS-CoV twice.

¨  The Korea-WHO Joint Mission(Jun. 19-13) has officially begun today. Assistant Director-General of WHO, Dr. Fukuda said that the Korean government is dealing with the MERS situation well, and its efforts to disclose information transparently will be helpful. The Joint Mission will visit hospitals that had confirmed cases or are keeping isolated patients, and will analyze the characteristics of MERS-CoV. The results of their assessment will be disclosed in a press conference on June 13(Sat).

¨ The Korea MERS Response Headquarter believes that this week will be a critical time for stopping the spread of MERS, as secondary infections are declining among the patients who visited the ER at Seoul Samsung Medical Center, and confirmed cases in other hospitals are occurring sporadically.

¨  Starting from June 8, the Korean government has begun tracking the locations of MERS contacts under quarantine through cellular phones in collaboration with telecommunication providers.

¨  236 ERs have been set aside for MERS suspected patients nationwide, which accounts for 44% of all 535 ERs in Korea. This separation will reduce anxiety among ER users and protect both non-MERS patients and medical staff from contracting the virus.

¨  10 Koreans isolated in China and Hong Kong were released after 2 weeks of quarantine.
