Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Visits Daycare Center in Seoul (11.8)

November 8, 2021

The 1st Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Yang Seong-il visited the Sang-do Daycare Center (located in Dongjak-gu, Seoul) on November 8 (Mon) at 4:30 pm to check the COVID-19 control situation and listened to difficulties in the field at a later meeting.

This site visit was conducted to check* whether the COVID-19 control of daycare centers, which should safely protect unvaccinated and vulnerable infants and young children, are being carried out smoothly at the site during the transition to a step-by-step recovery.

Issues discussed include: closure per decision of the local government head, allowing access to fully vaccinated individuals, regular (once a week) PCR testing of non-vaccinated outside visitors, allowing special activities, group events, and group education within the daycare on the condition of refraining from outside activities.

During the on-site visit on the same day, 1st Vice Minister Yang Seong-il expressed his gratitude for the efforts made in COVID-19 control through on-site meetings with the head of the daycare center, daycare staff, and childcare officials at Seoul City Hall and Dongjak-gu Office.

Whether or not daycare centers comply with infection prevention rules, the status of closures and emergency childcare, vaccinations, preemptive examinations, and other difficulties were discussed.

First Vice Minister Yang Seong-il emphasized, “Recently, confirmed cases related to daycare centers continues to occur, and it is time to stay vigilant as the implementation of the gradual return to normal takes place.”

The Minister also asked the daycare center to follow infection prevention measures to protect the unvaccinated and vulnerable population from COVID-19.
