Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing Holds

the First Hands-On Training for Vaccine Manufacturing with WHO

 

- Third training in 2024, marking the first hands-on training in collaboration with WHO -

59 participants from 27 low- and middle-income countries to gain practical experience in mRNA vaccine manufacturing over a four-week period -

 

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, Minister Cho KyooHong) announced that, starting Monday, November 11, it will conduct a four-week Vaccine and Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Training" through the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO). This program aims to enhance vaccine production capacity in low- and middle-income countries.

 

* In February 2022, WHO designated Korea as the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing

 

While the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing has previously conducted regional training in partnership with organizations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), this session marks a significant milestone as it expands for the first timein collaboration with WHOto provide practical training for vaccine manufacturing on a global scale.

 

Fifty-nine participants from 27 low- and middle-income countries worldwide will take part in this training, where they will learn to manufacture high-demand vaccines, such as mRNA and viral vector vaccines, in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. The program is overseen by the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing Support Foundation (GTHB-SF) and operated by institutions including the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and Yonsei University’s K-NIBRT.

 

Jung Eun-young, Director General of Health Industry Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, commented, “This training program is the first hands-on training course offered by the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing in collaboration with WHO, utilizing Korea’s GMP-compliant industrial environment to effectively strengthen global vaccine manufacturing capacity. The government will continue to make efforts for Korea to fulfill its responsible role as a central hub for biomanufacturing workforce development worldwide.” ///
