(4.16) Regular Briefing of Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on COVID-19

- ▲ Campaign plan for COVID-19 medical workers, and ▲ the preparation for the 2nd meeting of Life Quarantine Committee, etc.

□ The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters held a meeting today presided over by Head Chung Sekyun (Prime Minister) along with the central government and 17 cities and provinces to discuss agendas including the ▲ campaign plan for COVID-19 medical workers at a video conference room of 1-dong, Government Complex Sejong.

□ Head Chung stressed, at the meeting, it is essential to listen to and reflect opinions from the field in the transition to the so-called “daily life quarantine system” to enhance the effectiveness and instructed relevant ministries to sufficiently gather opinions from local governments and experts.

○ He also urged related organizations to prepare and take measures to ensure that there is no disruption in providing lessons since all classes are opened online except for 1st to 3rd graders in elementary schools.


1. Campaign plan for COVID-19 medical workers


□ The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters announced that it will launch a campaign to cheer on medical workers and boost their morale and pride who have been on the forefront of fighting against COVID-19.

○ A national campaign, the so-called “Thanks_Challenge”, will be implemented which was named in the sense that we are overcoming COVID-19 “thanks to medical workers.

- The symbolic images of the campaign were created by using sign languages meaning “respect” and “pride”, and anyone can join the campaign by posting a photo utilizing these gestures below on Instagram, a social networking service.

- Hereafter, the image will be made into a badge in order to give it to the public and medical workers who participated in the SNS campaign, and a video image to express gratitude to medical workers will be produced by using videos and photos the public has uploaded.

○ The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters expressed gratitude to all medical workers for their dedication and hard work in fighting to contain COVID-19 in the field despite many difficulties, and asked the public to join the campaign with diverse and creative ideas to cheer on and encourage medical workers.


2. Preparations for the 2nd meeting of Life Quarantine Committee


□ The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters said that it will hold the second meeting of Life Quarantine Committee (co-chaired by Minister Park Neunghoo of Health and Welfare and President Lee Yoon-Seong of Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute) on April 16 (Thursday) at 11:00 a.m., following the first meeting held on April 10.

○ At the first meeting, many discussions were made on the possibility and timing of, and prerequisites and preparations for the transition to the “daily life quarantine system”.

○ In particular, there have been concerns that a sudden end of social distancing could lead to mass infections although recent figures related to COVID-19 seem to come to a lull with a slight drop in the number of new infections.

○ All 18 committee members will attend the meeting, which will held at the conference room located on the 22nd floor of Kukje Electronics Center to discuss how we should prepare for the future after the implementation of social distancing campaign which is scheduled to end on the upcoming Sunday.

□ Minister Park Neunghoo of Health and Welfare (Vice head 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters) stressed at the meeting, “Recently, fewer than 30 new cases are reported a day but there are still cases whose sources of infection remain unidentified. Therefore, we should not let our guard down and loosen up our containment efforts.”

○ He also said, “I hope at today’s meeting, we will have in-depth discussions on not only details about daily life quarantine system but how we could cope with the relevant concerns.”
