MOHW attends the intergovernmental meeting on the final review of the Incheon Strategy

The Ministry of Health and Welfare attends ‘the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022’ held in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 19 (Wed) to 21 (Fri).
UNESCAP established and implemented a total of three Asian and Pacific Decades of Persons with Disabilities, beginning in 1993, in order to strengthen the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
The action plan of the ‘Third Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022’, for the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities, established by UNESCAP, was adopted in Incheon in 2012 and called the 'Incheon Strategy'. It consisted of a total of 10 goals, 27 targets, and 62 indicators.
Government delegations from 62 UNESCAP member and associate member states and civil society organizations will attend either online or offline. In recognition of its contributions as a leading country of the Inchoen Strategy, Cho KyooHong, Minister of Health and Welfare, has delivered a special address in video on behalf of the Korean government.
Minister Cho has announce the outcomes of the Incheon Strategy achieved by the Korean government in cooperation with UNESCAP and the member states, including the establishment of the ‘Towards the Incheon Strategy to Ensure the Rights of Persons with Disabiliities in Asia and the Pacific’ and the ‘Guidelines for Disability-Inclusive Development Cooperation Projects’.
In addition, through an announcement at the country statement session, the Korean government’s efforts and achievements in Korea and the Asia-Pacific region during the Third Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, has been delivered and minister has expressed Korea’s intention to implement the Jakarta Declaration, which will be adopted at this meeting for the full implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
Minister Cho said, "As there are about 700 million persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, the Incheon Strategy is extremely relevant for the global issue of persons with disabilities.” He added, "As we finalize the Incheon Strategy, MOHW will introduce the Korean government's efforts and achievements, and emphasize cooperation among the member states for promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.“
