* No additional confirmed cases have been reported for 29 straight days since July 4.

** 11 out of the 12 cases under treatment have tested negative for MERS-CoV by two PCR tests, and all of the 11 cases were transferred from negative-pressure isolation rooms to general wards for ongoing treatment.

Currently, 9 cases are in a stable condition while 3 are unstable. The 3 unstable cases are relying on devices such as an artificial respirator or ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) for the maintenance of oxygen saturation.

* Of travelers from the Middle East, 5 with suspected symptoms(including the 2 new suspected cases) are currently being tested under quarantine. 72 contacts of these suspected cases are being monitored under quarantine.

a) A 37-old male who returned from Oman on July 30 developed a fever on July 31. He was placed under quarantine on August 1 and took the first PCR test for MERS-CoV. The test result came out negative. He is scheduled to have the second PCR test on August 3.

b) A 47-old male developed a fever while returning from Kuwait on August 1. He was placed under quarantine on August 1 and took the first PCR test for MERS-CoV. The test result came out negative. He is scheduled to have the second PCR test on August 3.

c) A 63-year old male who returned from UAE on July 27 developed a fever on July 30, but he has been free of symptoms since August 1. Currently, he is under home quarantine. He tested negative for MERS-CoV by PCR test on August 2 and will have the second test on August 4.

d) A 28-year old male who returned from Jordan on August 1 had nasal discharge (without a fever) on August 2 and has since been under home quarantine. He tested negative for MERS-CoV by PCR test on August 2 and will have the second test on August 4.

e) A 36-female who returned from UAE on July 27 developed a fever on August 2. She is scheduled to be placed under hospital quarantine on August 3 (today). She tested negative for MERS-CoV by PCR test on August 2 and will have the second test on August 4.

** All of them are the contacts of the 3rd suspected case (male, 63)
