¨ Update on the Samsung Medical Center (Seoul)
1) One of 16 confirmed MERS cases at the hospital (July 3) was discharged; 12 of them were transferred to isolated rooms in state-designated medical facilities; three will soon be transferred as well.
2) - PCR tests for MERS-CoV were conducted on about 960 staff members in charge of confirmed cases out of 3,846 doctors and nurses at the hospital. According to the PCR test results, all of them except the 184th and 185th cases tested negative for MERS-CoV..
- This is the result of the authorities' thorough inspection and control to contain the spread of the virus.
- The staff members who treated confirmed cases will be put under home quarantine for 14 days to check symptoms. Those who test negative for MERS-CoV can return to work.
¨ Update on hospitals under strict control
- To prevent doctors and nurses who have close contact with MERS cases from spreading the virus, PCR tests for MERS-CoV will be conducted on those under home quarantine before they return to work.
- The same applies to medical staff and patients under hospital quarantine
¨ Update on financial support for hospitals
- The government will first provide 16 billion won for 21 medical institutions such as hospitals under strict control and hospitals with MERS cases which are in urgent need of support.
- The payment will be commensurate with the size of the hospital, the number of MERS cases and quarantined individuals, and patients' condition. (2 billion won, 1.5 billion won, 1 billion won, 400 million won, or 200 million won)
- The government also drew up a revised supplementary budget of 100 billion won, and submitted the budget supplement bill to the National Assembly.
