Minister Park, Neung-hoo meets with youths with disabilities participating in 'Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities’ on November 26

- Minister Park delivers a warm welcome speech to 100 youths with disabilities from 20 countries, thanks volunteers and event officials and enjoys the paintings by artists with disabilities -


□ Minister Neung-hoo Park of Health and Welfare visited Pukyoung National University (Hanmir Bldg., Youngdang Campus) at 9 am on November 24 (Tues.) and warmly welcomed 100 youths with disabilities from 20 countries who participated in the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC)*.

* In order to improve the information literacy of the disabled youth in the ASIA·Pacific region and to enhance their social participation such as enrollment and employment, the Rehabilitation International Korea and LG have hosted GITC as an international development cooperation project, being on a tour around different Asian countries since 2011.

○ The Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities is held as a side event of the 2019 ROK-ASEAN Commemorative Summit and youths from ASEAN 8 countries*, 9 Northeast·Central· Southwest Asian countries, the U.K., Ethiopia as well as Korea participate in the event.

* Youths from 8 countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) among 10 ASEAN countries participate.

□ The Minister visited the Secretariat office and encouraged volunteers and event officials.

○ He also went to the Hall of Fame which introduces the history of the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities and took a look at the history of the GITC which has been held on a tour around Asian countries.

○ He made a visit to the World Braille Maps Exhibition Hall and also appreciated the paintings by artists with disabilities.


□ In his welcoming remarks, Minister Park said, "I hope youths meet the world much more freely with the development of ICT(Information and Communications Technology) and I am looking forward to seeing you being great IT leaders in the future.”
