Ministry of Health and Welfare Planning & Coordination Officer Choi, Jong Gyun appointed as vice chair of OECD ELSAC Working Party on Social Policy
Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister: Rim, Chae Min) informed that Planning & Coordination Officer Choi, Jong Gyun (Deputy Commissioner C3, 41 years old) has been appointed as vice chair of OECD ELSAC Working Party on Social Policy at its 31st meeting held on 8 Dec. 2011.
Working Party on Social Policy was created in 1983 to compare and analyze researches on overall social policies such as pension, children and families, public assistance, and self-support, etc and policy experiences of the member countries and is participated by 34 OECD member states, EU, ILO, and ISSA, etc.
It is the first time for a Korean to be appointed as vice-chair of Working Party on Social Policy and Choi will play his roles as one of vice-chairs for the next 3 years such as selecting agenda items, presenting opinions on agenda topics and seconding various proposals, etc.
Planning and Coordination Officer Choi Jong Gyun had worked at OECD Secretariat for three years from 2005 and he is strongly equipped with global mind and expertise in the social policy area based upon his working experiences as International Cooperation officer and Manager of Division of Policy for Persons with Disabilities, etc.
Choi said, “I’ll make efforts to gain knowledge that will help set directions for our welfare policies and also share our efforts and experiences with other countries at the global level.”
Choi’s appointment as vice-chair can be seen as a reflection of Korea’s enhanced standing in the international organizations including OECD and an increased expectation of Korea’s contribution to the global society by the international community.
In the meantime, the appropriateness and sustainability of the pension systems, the analysis of status of the vulnerable class, and the budget program for 2013 and 2014 (draft), etc were discussed at the Working Party on Social Policy meeting held from 8 Dec. (Thur.) to 9 (Fri.)
