(null)

- AUM reached KRW 1,146.1 trillion, including KRW 675.2 trillion in cumulative investment income since inception -

The National Pension Fund delivered a return of 9.18% on its investments for the nine-month period ending September 30, 2024.

The NPS Investment Management, a dedicated fund management arm of the National Pension Service (NPS; Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Tae-hyun Kim), announced on November 29, 2024 that the Fund achieved a preliminary return of 9.18% (money-weighted), equivalent to KRW 97.24 trillion, for the January-September period.

The total assets under management were valued at KRW 1,146 trillion, which includes KRW 675.2 trillion in cumulative investment income since the launch of the National Pension Plan in 1988.

By asset class, the best performer was global equity with a return of 21.35%, followed by global fixed income at 6.97%, alternatives at 5.05%, domestic fixed income at 4.09%, and domestic equity at 0.46%.

Amid concerns about economic recession, the Fed’s rate cut and U.S. tech-driven stock rally, as well as a rise in the USD/KRW exchange rate and bond prices, positively contributed to achieving a return of 9.18%.

* Korean Stock Market (KOSPI): down 2.34% from the start of the year
Global Stock Market (MSCI ACWI ex-Korea, USD): up 19.40% from the start of the year
3-year Korean Treasury: down 34.0bp from the start of the year
10-year U.S. Treasury: down 12.9bp from the start of the year

USD/KRW exchange rate: up 2.34% from the start of the year

The return on alternative investments, including real estate, private equity, and infrastructure, for the three quarters mostly reflected interest income, dividend income, and foreign exchange gains from a strong U.S. dollar; changes in asset valuations were not considered in the performance result. The fair values of alternative assets will be assessed at the fiscal year end.
