The "Community Childcare Service" is a program that offers year-round or temporary childcare, school drop-off/pick-up service, and other services to care for elementary school students, tailored to the needs of individual communities. Under this program, a childcare infrastructure is built by utilizing the community’s existing facilities and resources to offer services customized for the community’s childcare needs with the cooperation of the local government and the community.The program aims to offer care services to children when they need them as if they were cared for by their own family members or close relatives.

2018 Community Childcare Service Program
- Who is eligible?
Children aged 6 to 12 years (mainly for elementary school students) - What is offered?
Year-round/temporary childcare, cultural, art and sports programs, school drop-off/pick-up support, linkage to childcare counseling and services, snacks, etc. - Who will provide childcare?
- One general manager, one full-time childcare teacher (or two part-time childcare teachers) - Provision of services by utilizing various human resources in the community, allocation of personnel by relevant field - How is the program operated?
- Diverse types of operation including direct management by the local autonomous government, joint operation, or contracted-out operation
- A childcare center under this program can be operated by a local welfare foundation or another entity under the local autonomous government, or operated jointly with a social cooperative or a community council.
