Discussion on International Cooperation in the G20 Health Sector

and Joint Finance and Health Ministers' Meeting -

Health ministers to adopt a joint declaration calling for health equity and universal health coverage -

 

Health and Welfare Minister Cho KyooHong will attend the 2024 G20 Health Ministers' Meeting and Joint Finance and Health Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday, October 31. He will engage in discussions with representatives from various countries on advancing access to health for all and achieving universal health coverage by building a sustainable and resilient global health system.

 

The meetings will gather high-level officials from G20 member countries, including the G7, BRICS, and the EU, along with invited countries such as Spain and Egypt, and major international organizations in the health sector, including the World Health Organization (WHO).

 

Minister Cho will emphasize the growing global health disparities exacerbated by the ongoing emergence of novel infectious diseases. He will outline how Korea can contribute to advancing universal health coverage, highlighting the country’s strengths and policy expertise in supporting production capacity expansion in low- and middle-income countries and promoting the adoption of digital health technologies.

 

Furthermore, Minister Cho plans to meet with the chief delegates from key countries, such as Brazial, the chair country, and the United Kingdom, to discuss mutual interests and explore ways to deepen cooperation in the health sector. ///
