TITLE : Medical Officer

Prevention and Control of Diseases(DDC)
Integrated Management of Childhood Illness(IMCI)
Control of Diarrhoeal Diseases and Acute Respiratory Infections(CDR)
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To contribute to the reduction in childhood mortality due to diarrhoea diseases, acute respiratory infections, malaria, measles and malnutrition through the implementation of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness(IMCI). To improve the quality of care provided to children under five years of age through improved quality of training in the Region.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL :
Develop and regularly review the rgional strategy for the implementation of IMCI; develop and strengthen regional capacity by creating a critical mass of consultants for IMCI and CDR implementation; improve technical support to countries in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of IMCI and CDR actitities.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
EDUCATION AND SKILLS :
Degree in medicine from a recognized university. Postgraduate qualification(s) in child health or public health. Training in epidemiology would be an asset. Excellent knowledge of public health, especially child health/paediatrics and epidemiology. Ability to work harmoniously with international and national colleagues and contacts. Ability to project the image of the organization positively at all levels of assignment. Capacity to provide leadership for technical and organizational purposes. Ability to train various cadres of health workers is an additional advantage.
EXPERIENCE :
Extensive practical experience in the field of child health or public health(at least 5 years\'') at the national or international levels. Specifically planning, management, operations, training and evaluation of CDD/ARI Programmes. Experience in the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness would be an advantage.
LANGUAGES :
Excellent knowledge of English or French with good working Knowledge of the languages.
ANNUAL SALARY(net of fax) :
US$52,503 at single rate and US$56,380 with 
primary dependants. POST ADJUSTMENT : 19.5% of the above figures. The percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards.
